Amy & David in London – honestly the best personal training experience!
The "beauty standard" for Chinese girls is shifting from just being "skinny" to being "strong." I’ve been getting into fitness over the last two years, moving from cardio to strength training. Back home, I was doing BodyPump classes a few times a week. I gained some strength, but I hit a plateau quickly—I was still skinny and still scared to eat. My body was telling me it was time for the next level.
When I moved to London in September, I figured Western fitness culture would be more advanced, so I started looking for a gym and a PT. After comparing a few, I chose Amy & David because they specialize in training Chinese women. I’m a very organized person, so I loved their strict, structured approach. We did three 45-minute sessions a week, alternating upper and lower body. Everything was tracked: my diet in an app, fixed training times, a tight schedule, and quantified data. Seeing my progress recorded step-by-step made my life feel way more disciplined and healthy.
Amy’s prep and nutrition advice is so on point. She lays everything out in detail—texts, photos, options, and tips. I just had to follow the plan, which saved me so much stress and overthinking about what to eat. I went from a "skinny-weak" person who just winged my meals to a "skinny-strong" person who eats meat every meal. Meat and carbs are my best friends now!
David’s training is super rigorous. He records every move and every weight, making sure I improve every single session. Not only is his technical coaching great, but he’s always checking in on how I feel and adjusting the machines or my form in real-time. He really pushed me to break my limits: my shoulder press went from 3kg to 7kg (per hand), and my leg press went from 25kg to 80kg per side! The visual change in my body speaks for itself.
When people around me started noticing the change, I went for my second Dexa scan. After 8 weeks, I gained 1.2kg of muscle and even dropped a bit of fat. Huge win! The staff kept telling me "good job, keep going." I’m definitely sticking with it. I want to be a strong "skinny" person!
